After the success of the previous editions held in Naples in 2015 and in Milan in 2017 and after the stop due to the pandemic which did not make the organization of the 3rd API Congress possible in 2020 as scheduled, the organizers decided to make it in virtual mode. After 4 years from the last edition, a debate among the experts in the field can no longer be postponed as it is necessary to share the latest updates and cutting-edge ideas related to the flexible packaging sector. Academic and industry experts will cover wide range of topics relevant to innovations and future challenges. The third API conference will focus on the most recent developments in the packaging industry, with particular attention to sustainability issues. In fact, the two days of the event will be divided into two main sessions, Products and Processes, under the common umbrella of sustainability.

Organized by Giflex, the association that groups together the Italian manufacturers of flexible packaging, and by the Regional Technology Competence Center (Crdc Tecnologia Scarl), API 2021 has, among the members of the scientific committee, two Cnr researchers, Giovanna Giuliana Buonocore (Institute for polymers, composites and biomaterials – Ipcb) and Valeria Di Sarli (Institute of sciences and technologies for sustainable energy and mobility – Stems).

The congress represents a multidisciplinary forum for those interested in scientific and technological advances in the field of flexible packaging for the packaging of food, pharmaceutical, chemical and other industrial applications. Experts from universities, research institutions and industry will deal with a wide range of topics relevant to innovation and the future of the sector, including: new materials and new design for packaging; active and passive barriers and new functionalities; food packaging safety: emerging risks and regulatory aspects; eco design, circular economy and environmental impact; lamination, printing and converting processes; process safety in the packaging production industry; functional coating and surface treatment technologies; nanotechnologies for packaging; packaging at the time of Covid; packaging innovation to support the European Green Deal.
