At Technology Days 2026, held on April 21–22 at the Würzburg headquarters in Germany, Koenig & Bauer placed the spotlight on flexographic technology, unveiling the new EasyTronic CI Flexo system in a world premiere and showcasing the role of the XD Pro CI Flexo press in modern packaging production.
The event gathered around 170 participants, including converters, technology partners, industry experts, and brand representatives, offering a comprehensive overview of how flexographic printing is evolving to meet the demands of today’s packaging markets.
Opening the event at the Customer Technology Centre, Stephen Kimmich acknowledged the challenges of the current global economic environment while highlighting the opportunities created by the company’s broad presence across multiple sectors and technologies, from flexo to digital printing. The innovations presented during the Technology Days reflect Koenig & Bauer’s overall strategy of increasingly addressing mid-tech markets with new entry-level solutions, alongside highly sophisticated systems for demanding applications.
One of the highlights of the event was the XD Pro, described as the “workhorse” of modern flexographic production. During live demonstrations, the CI Flexo press produced a range of complex applications, including stand-up pouches, chocolate bar packaging, mono-material films, and fibre-based packaging, demonstrating its versatility across key packaging segments. All jobs were printed using ECG (Extended Colour Gamut) technology.
Special attention was given to the world premiere demonstration of EasyTronic CI Flexo, developed to help converters achieve more efficient start-ups, faster job changes, and greater process automation. The innovation was complemented by a new automatic web feed system capable of reducing setup times by up to 80% compared to conventional systems. Both technologies leverage decades of expertise gained by Koenig & Bauer in the newspaper printing sector.
