Global Rotogravure Printing, a shared vision: GRA’s drive for innovation, training, and international networking

5

The Global Rotogravure Association promotes gravure printing worldwide, supporting innovation and sustainability. It encourages the exchange of experience and collaboration among stakeholders across the value chain and acts as the voice of the industry with institutions and international communities, protecting its interests. In this way, it shapes a future of quality and technological progress. It fosters knowledge sharing and collaboration among professionals in the supply chain by organizing meetings and engaging webinars, such as the one scheduled in Stuttgart from July 8 to 10: an introduction to gravure prepress and printing with demonstrations and hands-on exercises. The Stuttgart Media University is the only university in Europe equipped with a complete gravure line, from cylinder preparation to the printing press. In addition to electromechanical engraving, all workflows for other modern gravure cylinder engraving processes, such as assisted laser engraving and laser engraving, are presented. New developments related to cylinder surfaces are also introduced.

Participants will design a layout, contribute to the preparation and engraving of a cylinder, and print it on different types of paper.
The course is designed to provide a practical overview of the entire process chain to employees of gravure printers, cylinder engravers, and repro studios, as well as to manufacturers of paper, substrates, and inks, and even newcomers from other sectors. It does not include advanced training for operators and is therefore not intended for experienced technical staff.

The number of participants is limited to 10 per course. This allows each participant to take an active, hands-on role in every stage of production, fostering a better understanding of the entire process. Here you can find all information and online registration link

Past and future GRA Talks Factory events

The format of these events is designed to bring industry experts together in an informal setting, as if they were “around the table,” with less PowerPoint and more conversation.

During the recent GRA Talks Factory event, hosted last February by Pelican Rotoflex Pvt. Ltd. (a manufacturer of gravure and flexo presses) in Rajkot, India, Akshay Joshi demonstrated how G7 calibration can help shift gravure printing from visual adjustments to color control based on precise measurements. Implementing G7 tone calibration and gray balance enables printers to achieve more consistent color reproduction, faster press start-up times, better matching between proof and final print, greater job repeatability, and reduced consumption of ink, solvents, and energy. There was also Michael Rüschenbeck from Renzmann Gmbh, he spoke about solvent distillation and cleaning solutions.

The next GRA Talks Factory will take place on May 5–6 in Johannesburg and will include a visit to the CTP facility, expert presentations, interactive group discussions, and a networking evening in a traditional regional atmosphere. CTP Packaging is a division of the South African group Caxton and CTP Publishers and Printers, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. CTP Packaging consists of several specialized divisions that operate in an integrated way to provide a complete packaging solution.

International Gravure Days 2026

From October 7 to 9, 2026, the global gravure printing community will gather in Munich, immediately after Oktoberfest, to celebrate the International Gravure Days and the 70th anniversary of GRA, returning to the city that hosts its headquarters and to the association’s roots. It is also planned a visit to Spaten brewery.

This event will bring together industry leaders and partners from around the world to strengthen international exchange. It will also be an enjoyable occasion: at the gala dinner, attendees are invited to wear traditional clothing from their countries, such as Dirndl and Lederhosen, Saree and Kurta, Kimono or Dashiki…turning the evening into a colorful celebration of the global gravure printing community.
