On the occasion of Heidelberg’s 175th anniversary, we met Mario Vanoni, CBO – Chief Business Officer of GPack in Truccazzano (Milan), a company specialized in paperboard printing and packaging that has grown hand in hand with Heidelberg. The bond is so strong that GPack was selected as a featured case study in the commemorative book published and distributed during the German manufacturer’s anniversary celebration on June 2nd

GPack

With over forty years of experience in the industry and a solid industrial structure, GPack has established itself as a key player in the production of folding carton and laminated board packaging. The company is known for its quality, attention to detail, and a product personalization-oriented approach. The group’s headquarters are located in Truccazzano (MI), just outside Milan, a strategic hub from which a network of five production sites is coordinated: Cavaione (MI), Cambiago (MI), Vailate (CR), Bottanuco (BG), with a total of over 400 employees.

“Our mission”, says Mario Vanoni, Chief Business Officer of the group, “is to respond promptly and precisely to the needs of an increasingly sophisticated market, where the difference is often played out in the details. Our clients operate in demanding sectors such as perfumery, cosmetics, and high fashion, and their packaging must match the value of the product inside. This is where experience, innovation, and above all the creativity typical of Made in Italy come into play”.

Specialization and versatility

GPack has built its identity on a strong expertise in luxury packaging, which today accounts for 80% of its business. However, the group offers more than that: it also provides general packaging solutions, particularly for the food & beverage sectors, as well as the production of point-of-sale displays. Enhancing its vertically integrated production model, GPack has a dedicated plant for corrugated cardboard production and a facility specialized in assembling rigid boxes, the final stage of a production process designed to ensure total control and maximum quality.

This diversification allows GPack to respond flexibly and efficiently even to the most complex requests, offering tailor-made solutions that combine aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability, another key driver in the development of new projects.

A longstanding partnership with Heidelberg

The constant pursue of technical and production excellence led GPack to choose, from the very beginning, a strong and technologically advanced partner for its printing division: Heidelberg, the historic German brand synonymous with reliability, precision, and quality. Over the years, the relationship between the two companies has evolved from a simple machine supplier into a true strategic partnership.

“I joined GPack in 2010”, Vanoni recalls, “and even then, Heidelberg was a cornerstone for us. Over time, thanks to the relationship of trust built with the Italian branch and the people behind it, the collaboration has grown stronger. Our production needs have increased, and Heidelberg has consistently met the challenge with top solutions, supporting our growth journey”.

Today, GPack operates with a 6-color 70×100 press, two 8-color 70×100 presses, and, new for 2025, a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106 9-color press with coater and integrated cold-foil system, installed in March of this year. This major investment enables in-line finishing of printed products, effectively meeting the evolving demands of the luxury market, where premium finishes make all the difference.

The prepress department is also equipped with Heidelberg technology, thanks to the Suprasetter plate imaging system, ensuring efficiency and continuity throughout the entire production chain.

Steady growth and international vision

The year 2024 closed with an EBITDA exceeding €15 million, confirming steady and well-planned growth, driven by significant investments in technology, automation, and sustainability. GPack looks to the future with confidence, adopting an increasingly international approach while maintaining strong roots in Italy and the manufacturing excellence that defines it.

“Innovation for us is not just about investing in new machinery”, concludes Vanoni, “but a mindset that involves the entire organization, from material research to production processes, logistics, and customer service. In Heidelberg, we’ve found a partner capable of supporting us in this vision, with whom we share core values such as reliability, quality, and a constant drive for improvement”.

GPack thus confirms its position not only as a benchmark in luxury packaging but also as a shining example of how the synergy between Italian expertise and German technology can create real, lasting value.
