The recent opening of a new Tri-Wall production plant in Wednesbury, in the West Midlands, offers an interesting snapshot of the evolution underway in the corrugated cardboard sector: increasingly flexible systems, oriented towards short runs, customization and operational efficiency. In this context, a central role is played by Kolbus BX Motion (BXM) line, chosen as one of the first production solutions installed on the new site.

BX Motion Pro is a line designed specifically for the production of boxes in short runs, designed to meet the needs of converters operating in markets characterized by small batches, high variability of formats and increasingly stringent delivery times. The machine allows the creation of customized packaging with single, double, and triplewall corrugated cardboard, guaranteeing high operational precision and rapid processing changeover.
One of the distinctive elements of BX Motion Pro is its modular architecture, which allows the line to be configured based on specific production needs. Each module can be adapted individually, also in terms of processing sequence, offering broad application flexibility. Transport rollers and tools are positioned automatically according to FEFCO code and format, reducing significally set-up times.
Of particular note the automated adjustment of all creasing/cutting tools for precise positioning in less than 60 seconds. This feature makes the BX Motion Pro an ideal solution suitable not only for structured industrial contexts, but also for productions that require frequent format changes without compromising overall efficiency.
The line is also equipped with automatic feeding and stacking systems, which optimize the production flow and allow operation with a single operator. This translates into greater operational efficiency, a reduction in management costs and an improvement in ergonomic conditions in the department.
“The installation of the BX Motion in the new Tri-Wall plant confirms the market’s growing interest in flexible boxmaking solutions, oriented towards short runs and sustainability, capable of supporting lean and responsive production models. This choice reflects the technological philosophy of Kolbus and demonstrates how our offer is able to respond in a concrete way to the new needs of corrugated cardboard converters also in the Italian market”, comments Tiziana de Gregorio, operations director of Kolbus Italia Srl.
