After the summer break, Laminati Cavanna’s production has resumed at full capacity, with new projects underway. In mid-September, the new Super Simplex Nordmeccanica laminator was installed.
“This is a significant modernization, allowing us to strengthen our presence in the solventless market and continue updating our machine fleet, with special attention to new mono-material structures, especially PE”, says Anna Paola. The investment is part of a broader efficiency plan, also supported by the 2024 ISI INAIL notice. The new machine meets the requirements of Industry 5.0, with particular attention to sustainability, operator safety, and energy consumption monitoring. “We conducted a full energy audit on the outgoing machine”, says Anna Paola, “and we will now compare that data with the new line to quantify the energy efficiency gains. This is a concrete step forward in reducing our energy consumption and environmental impact on the local area”.
The new Super Simplex by Nordmeccanica features sealed automatic washing, enhanced suction hoods, and advanced safety systems, offering tangible benefits for operators in terms of safety and reduced chemical risk. It also includes an on-board digital synoptic panel that allows monitoring and managing all production parameters, with the support of artificial intelligence. “Operators will be trained to fully utilize these features. This path leads toward process standardization, which is also useful in a context of staff turnover. However, operator experience remains essential, especially given the variety of jobs we manage”, adds Cavanna.
With this investment, the company completes the final step toward having a nearly fully modernized machine fleet, continuing a journey that began in 2018. Since then, at Calendasco (Piacenza) site have been installed a new slitter-rewinder, cylinder grinding equipment, a third Nordmeccanica solventless line, and a BOBST solvent-based line.
An upgrade is also planned for the BOBST laminator at Laminati Cavanna, with the addition of a coating module with perfect register application that will open new market opportunities for the company. This system can apply adhesives with perfect register and matte or heat-sealable lacquers using gravure, offline from the printing stage.
“On September 10th, at our corporate Academy, we presented our first Sustainability Report to banks, insurance companies, clients, and suppliers. We chose to do this even though it wasn’t mandatory at the time, because I strongly believe in this activity, as also demonstrated by our technological investments. It’s an ambitious but necessary path to prepare us for future challenges in terms of efficiency, safety, and sustainability. It’s a commitment that allows us to look to the future with confidence and pride, knowing we are a modern and competitive company”, adds Anna Paola Cavanna.
A future of challenges and new opportunities
Alongside the technological modernization path, other initiatives are also ongoing. Following the great success at the most recent edition of Ipack-Ima 2025, when Laminati Cavanna booth hosted several TALKS featuring prominent representatives from across the printing, converting, and packaging supply chain, new projects have taken shape.
From this initiative came a book titled “LAMINATI CAVANNA TALK: INTERVIEWS AT THE FAIR”, presented on September 27th at the company’s Academy. The book is dedicated to the memory of beloved friend Stefano Lavorini and includes all the interviews and photos taken during Ipack-Ima sessions. “This project dedicated to Stefano is very emotional for me, and we wanted to put it on paper to leave a tangible testimony”, concludes Anna Paola Cavanna.
