FLEXIBILITY IS THE BEST POLICY FOR MEDIUM/SMALL BOX FACTORIES
Bimac has obtained the sole agency for the distribution of L.C.R. die-cutters dedicated to small and medium box factories. We met the players of this partnership, Giorgio Bigiani of Bimac and Mauro Bonzagni of L.C.R.

This collaboration enables Bimac to integrate its range of cutter-score cut slitters with the die-cutters manufactured by L.C.R.
As a matter of fact, although L.C.R. produces corrugated board die-cutting machines, they have never entered this sector, since their point of reference has always been represented by the furniture market. They have always been interested in big furniture factories that, thanks to their considerable space and resources, tend to produce special corrugated board packaging for their furniture in-house.
Undoubtedly, this is an economic and advantageous solution from several viewpoints, but lots of small artisan furniture factories existing on our territory cannot afford to produce their packaging by themselves and so they buy it from box factories. For this reason, the new partnership is dedicated to L.C.R. that will not change its sector and will go on relying upon Bimac’s expertise, as far as corrugated board is concerned.
“As a matter of fact, many Italian box factories work for furniture factories. They are generally medium/small enterprises that need special packaging of various dimensions and with short run productions and prompt delivery times.
Sometimes it may not be convenient to manufacture packaging with conventional die-cutters and, therefore, it is necessary to have a machine capable of meeting these requirements and, above all, of ensuring flexibility and cost-effectiveness”, says Mauro Bonzagni of L.C.R.
In addition, thanks to the presence of Bimac in this partnership, it will be possible to steadily upgrade the machines in order to adjust them to the corrugated board market trends. If further special demands develop in future, the Technical Offices of both companies will intervene promptly to provide the market with new solutions. Some important changes have already been made, and they aim at improving the quality of the finished product.
“Moreover, the ubication of the two enterprises, which are not so distant from each other, represents a key factor for their partnership because it enables them to communicate and to manage their plans more easily”, says Giorgio Bigiani of Bimac.

“MODULAR 2800” AND THE SEMIAUTOMATIC MODEL “QUARK 2500”

The above mentioned die-cutters are available in two models: Modular 2800, which is fully automatic, and Quark 2500, which is semiautomatic.
The version Modular 2800 has a modular cutting unit and score cut slitting configuration to better cope with the customer’s needs, and it can include from 6 up to 11 longitudinal units.
The board sheet is inserted manually. The machine can process a thickness range from 3 up to 7 m with flutes a,b,e,k,ba,bc,eb (single and dual ones) suitable for 2800 mm working format.
All FEFCO box types are stored into the control panel but, if necessary, it is possible to create new die-cut styles, thanks to special software, being developed inside the control panel. Die-cutting and score cut slitting can be carried out longitudinally and transversally. In addition, the machine is designed to develop non-stop micro-cutting which helps bend the board sheet in a better way.
The plant management is fully computerized, and it is possible to apply an interface by means of existing software, which enables you to acquire working programmes automatically.
Finally, it is possible to customize board boxes with simple, one colour prints by means of an inkjet printer. According to the box size, 8/10 boxes/min can be produced on average.
The semiautomatic model Quark 2500 enables you to automatically load sheets with 2500 mm working width. In this case, the positioning of the longitudinal units is carried out manually, and you can produce 4 boxes per minute can be produced on average.
As far as the other functions are concerned, both machines are very similar.
“As for the model Modular 2800, we can offer our automatic switch Bimac Star Feed as an option and, consequently, we can automate the production on this plant”, adds Giorgio Bigiani, who wants to highlight that both companies can offer perfectly interchangeable solutions.
“Furthermore, these die-cutters are not only useful for small and medium box factories, but also for big ones because, thanks to them, it is no longer necessary to employ the printer-plotter line, which is a costly plant”, continues Bigiani.
The machine is completely manufactured in Italy and L.C.R. technicians also provide prompt assistance services.
Bimac is going to become the sole distributor of these corrugated board machines throughout the world.
“The figures, we have calculated, and the market indications, we have received from our foreign distributors, highlight that there is some interest in the semiautomatic model Quark 2500, which the simplest and most economic of the two die-cutters. In addition, we are organizing some demonstrations for the customers who intend to visit us to personally realize the validity of these machines”, concludes Giorgio Bigiani.
